All men by nature desire a knowledge. Aristotle
Author: Olivera Z. Mijuskovic, philosopher
Today is the UNESCO World Philosophy Day. Why it is so important to us?
A few years ago I researched what it was like the education of Plato's Academy to modern schooling. I wrote about that in the International Journal of Science. Although the education models have changed one thing is remained the same - knowledge as a resource.
Philosophy is not a science and not an art. It is associated with them. The philosophy reflects on all. Where scientific proof is set philosophy always asks further. There is no conflict (or should not it be) but need constant interaction. The fullness of knowledge is actually the right knowledge.
It is no accident why the birth of philosophical thought developed and democracy. Modern societies need education in the broad sense. Well educated man is the man who is the creator and who understands the essence of the public good. The philosophy entails and ethical postulates of normal life.
Philosophy in a fast lifestyle can act as unnecessary, but it is a mistake. Philosophy should be properly acquainted. We should learn systematic thinking. Systematic knowledge are applicable in real life. Prudence is what is important. Progress is impossible without good logical planning.
That is why this day is very important. In fact, on this we have to think every day. And don`t forget the whole next year is dedicated to the celebration of 2400 years since the birth of Aristotle.
