Had two minor incidents last quarter this year where car bumpers barely bumped each other and costs $500+ damage, for cosmetically repainting the damaged plastic wraparound bumper (body shop has to remove bumper repaint (color coat plus clear coat; no physical damage). The first incident involved a lady parallel parking her Accura behind my wife's Chevy Impala and scraping the right rear bumper with her front right bumper (damage to both cars was cosmetic paint). The second incident resulted from my backing up my 2010 Chevy Malibu from a parking space simultaneously with an older Jeep Cherokee SUV (no damage to Jeep which had a real bumber with solid black non-painted plastic insert;considerable cosmetic paint damage to my car) .
Seems to me that a bumper should function primarily as a bumper and be designed for taps, as they were in the past.
"Where have all the real bumpers gone /" Any suggestions ?
