A Journey which started from Ayodhya in 1996 after completion of a formal Science Degree in to the field of Media and Communication Studies from Lucknow University have kept this author continuously on learning path by being trained by organizations like BBC and Zee News and having an option of a great career in Media Industry. But he selected to train and teach younger lot and make trained Media Professional for future, a Journey which was started after getting a three year long training in Print,Radio,TV and Digital Media in year 2000.

In these eighteen years technology have changed, content development have changed and so is style of Media Teaching. Gone are those days when mere by a white board and marker a Professor can make students understand the ins and outs of Media. Audio-Visual presentations, Tutorial,Field Exercises, Training on New Softwares,TV and Radio Studios,Photography Labs,Computer Labs are now integral part of a Media School. I mysel have established two Community Radio Stations and a High End TV Station in my two organizations and acknowledge such need for students of Media. Media and Communication teaching have become a blend of theory, tutorial and practice. I started media teaching from a film school as Electronic News Gathering faculty and trained not only Indian students but a variety of foreign students on finer aspects of field reporting. Soon, on my migration from Delhi to Bangalore,I was asked to set up department of Journalism and Mass Communication at a newly built college in year 2003 and led that department successfully. I not only taught in urban colleges and Universities but also in remote Government Universities in Purvanchal and Awadh region of Uttar Pradesh. My longest stay so far have been with Amity University Uttar Pradesh where I grew up as academician with 25 research papers and seven books to my credit while in Amity but also taught many core areas of Media and Communication Studies.I was asked by Management and Director of School of Communication to built a Community Radio Station and a high end TV Studio which I successfully completed and was awarded a certificate of merit. Author interviewed persons like Sir Mark Tully & Madhukar Upadhyaya who had served with BBC previously,Bhupendra Chaubey-Executive Editor of CNN-IBN,Richa Anirudh of Zindgi Live,Mugdha Chaturvedi, a famous Radio and TV Personality,Ragini Dwivedi-Super Star of Kannada films and many more for this Community Radio Station.

While fulfilling my main objective to disburse the knowledge and wisdom of media and communication I came across many cult academicians from across the globe heading prominent posts in Universities and continuously took input for my lectures while teaching Political System, International Relations, Intercultural Communication, Media Research, Media Industry, Media Management, Radio and Television, Digital Media, Communication Research,Marketing Research, Communication Theory, Print Media, Reporting and Editing and many more. Prof Steven Beebe of Texas State University has been a guiding force for the courses I teach. I have communicated to Dr Sarah T Part low Lefevre of Idaho State University in almost 200 pages on facebook and these communication exchanges has enhanced my understanding. Dan Salmon suffered with lethal disease but kept guiding me on Terrorism across the world especially in Pakistan. Dr Maureen Minnelli of City University, New York regularly speaks to me and so is Prof Rodney Carveth of Morgan State University. I am thankful to Prof Alfred Snider who died couple of years ago and had travelled continuously for as long as 50 hours across the world for his lectures.

In these long years I have joined more than two dozen corporate firms as Board Member and keep guiding them .These firms ranges from Education,Media,Banking and Finance,Mining and Metallurgy, Energy, Oil and Gas, Electricity,BPO,Defense and Security, Cyber Security,Think Tanks, Artificial Intelligence etc. Some of them are Advisers Energy Group LLC,NJ,USA, Global Institute for IT Management,NY,USA, ESJ-Paris or Paris School of Journalism which is world’s first Journalism School set up in 1899,Synergence LLC,Swissquote Bank,,Al-Badin Investment Group, SECINDEF (Security,Intelligence and Defense), Flying Memorials,D-Fence,Global Academic Research Institute and Center for Peace Studies, Colombo, Australian Institute of High Energy Metals,Australia,Sierra Morena Exploration Ltd,World News Tomorrow Corporation,Tuck Magazine,EIN News Desk,Global Ethics Network,Carnegie Council,Russian International Affairs Council,Hong Kong Information Consulting Group and many more.

The idea of this book was seeded in September 2018 when I joined School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Institute of Management Studies,Noida and my previous books were displayed in Institute’s Library .The Head Librarian of Institute Pawan Kumar Mishra asked me to write a Text book as there was lack of good text book for students, and thus idea was born. I explored what courses I had taught previously and out of that list selected these thirteen courses I have taught in three Universities. I must thank my faculty colleagues at Amity University, IMS Dehradun,TMU,Moradabad.Institute of Management Studies,Noida where I met Dr Sandeep Srivastva and Diksha Ratnesh who gave important academic input on this book and also to all others who have a true academic and industry knowledge and have inspired me.

My friends in Media Industry such as Bhupendra Chaubey,Executive Editor CNN-IBN,Richa Anirudh,a noted and prominent TV personality,Anjilee Istwal,a prominent anchor at NDTV India,Maha Siddiqi, another prominent face of CNN-IBN,Sanket Upadhyaya who have brought first Pan Indian English News Channel from South India by becoming Managing Editor at such an young age,Palki Sharma Upadhyaya who brings a very concurrent global affairs show ‘Gravitas’ at WION,Anjana Om Kashyap who grills her guests each evening on Aaj Tak, and few behind the show faces friend of mine like Manish Kumar, Output Head at Aaj Tak,Naveen Kishore,a sharp producer at Aaj Tak,Rajesh Shukla of Sahara TV,Brajesh Kumar Mishra,Bureau Chief of Zee News Patna and many more who are not coming in my mind.

I can not forget to mention few seniors of mine who shaped my life and inspired me.Shiv Prasad Joshi and Shalini Joshi Journalists turned Academic.Word of thanks for not only shaping me but also becoming inspiration.Shivani Rawat who corrected my first English News Script and have worked with two top Journalist of this world.Beth Dursf Brown and Tim Sullivan at Associated Press. Unnikrishnan-the only Business Journalist to whom I follow at Bloomberg.Rahul Pandita with whom I worked at Zee News is perhaps only Journalist who has understood pain and agony of Kashmir and Naxal hit areas.Neelesh Misra who has given Radio a new life by reinventing Art of Oral Story telling and who is sources of adding Oral Storytelling chapter in this book.

I must not forget to mention my patron in media Madhukar Upadhyaya who started as a humble student of Journalism at IIMC Delhi and became a mile stone through Journalism as a old hand and Editor-in-Chief of BBC Hindi in Delhi and London and also of Bhasha-The Hindi Service of Press Trust of India,a Historian by writing well researched books on British Raj such as “50 Days,50 Years Before”,as an Editor of Lokmat and Aaj Samaj and as a traveler by repeating Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi Salt March in 1990s and thus becoming only Indian to do so.

In this long academic journey my parents have always been my guiding force, my financial source and without whom I would have not achieved global acclaim as interdisciplinary scientist, I must bow my head before them. My wife and my son have adjusted themselves in my routine of working late or arising as early as at 02:30 PM in midnight quite often and all my works including this would have not been possible without my wife Suman and ten year old son Ratnanshu ( Pragun). Thanks to my elder brother Dr Devesh Dwivedi who is research oriented academic with a successful career as technocrat and his wife Suman Dwivedi who have worked with global giants of software sector.

Ratnesh Dwivedi

‘A Handbook of Media’ authored by Ratnesh Dwivedi is thesaurus book not only for students of Media and Communication in India but globally. While the book primarily focuses on courses taught in Amity University,Uttar Pradesh,Teerthankar Mahaveer University,Moradabad,Uttar Pradesh and Chaudhary Charan Singh University,Meerut,Uttar Pradesh,it caters the need of most spectrum of courses taught in various Universities across India and Globe. The thirteen courses in this book are wisely selected and equally designed in minutest detail. The research author has done while writing this book is evident by quality of content of book, topics selected in each course and explanation given in each topic.Ratnesh Dwivedi though freelance for International Platforms but he is full time academician, media scholar,Professor and Interdisciplinary Scientist who is in Education and Academic world for past twenty years. He has taught in various Universities not only in Urban Area but also in Awadh and Purvanchal belt of Uttar Pradesh. He is associated with two dozen corporate and almost a dozen research organizations and Institutes of global repute based outside India.

In my opinion there has always been lack of a quality, to the point but covering all aspect text book in India and this book fulfills this gap. While ‘Introduction to Journalism and Mass Communication’ has only graphic representation rest of other courses has been explained in detail topics with definitions, uses, effects, qualities and conclusion. Two courses ‘Introduction to Culture and Society’ and ‘Social and Political System in India are focused on Social, Cultural and Political segments in India while Indian Political System deals with Political Structure,Judicial,Constitutional and Parliamentary set up in India. There are two courses detailed on Communication Research from tiny to minutest detail. Print Media course explains reporting, writing and editing, various types of news and features, beats, layout of newspaper with a specially designed topic on How to Read a News Paper. Electronic Media has three parts.Part -1 and Part-2 deals with Various aspects of Radio Studies,History,Development,Scripting,Reporting,Qualities,Production and Technicalities and Part-3 deals with all about Creative,Production and Technical departments and people of Television and Films. Understanding the need of Digital Media, a complete course has been inducted on finer aspects of New Media as Digital Journalism.

Ratnesh Dwivedi has completely understood the need of students in this unique book and I hope it will be equally and widely read by students of Media and Communication not only in India but Globally.

The Future of Artificial Intelligence, with Stuart J. Russell

UC Berkley's Professor Stuart J. Russell discusses the near- and far-future of artificial intelligence, including self-driving cars, killer robots, governance, and why he's worried that AI might destroy the world. How can scientists reconfigure AI systems so that humans will always be in control? How can we govern this emerging technology across borders? What can be done if autonomous weapons are deployed in 2020?

Killer Robots, Ethics, & Governance, with Peter Asaro

Peter Asaro, co-founder of the International Committee for Robot Arms Control, has a simple solution for stopping the future proliferation of killer robots, or lethal autonomous weapons: "Ban them." What are the ethical and logistical risks of this technology? How would it change the nature of warfare? And with the U.S. and other nations currently developing killer robots, what is the state of governance?

As Biden Stalls, Is the "Restorationist" Narrative Losing Ground?

U.S. Global Engagement Senior Fellow Nikolas Gvosdev notes that former Vice President Joe Biden is, in foreign policy terms, most associated with a "restorationist" approach. How does this differentiate from other candidates? What approach will resonate most with voters?
