Our imagination can be our source of inspiration, but it also can be our downfall. So, the task of imagining a better future will be a no easy task, since we are susceptible to our sometimes selfish, melancholic, or even altruistic reasoning without thinking the realistic capabilities of our imagination. Therefore, when I was imagining my perspective of better future, I would like to imagine without restriction, in terms of feasibility or even our present capabilities.
The first thing that I imagine in a better future is the mode of transport. Our present mode pf transport is still safe but still susceptible to harm. This because our mode of transport still uses a “vehicular” concept, in which there must be “something” that bring us to somewhere. There must someway to free from the vehicular concept. So, what I envision is a system that transport us to someplace without using a vehicular mode; a Teleportation device. A teleportation device would be a “hole” that directly bring us to someplace, safe from any harm like in transportation via vehicular concept.
Another aspect for thought in a better future is the mode of communication. Just like in the Marvel’s Box Office movie, Guardian of the Galaxy, the hero is able to converse with every kind of alien life form in the universe. If one scrutinized the movie, one can see that the hero is equipped with a voice translator, early in the movie. I envisioned in the future such device would be norm, where everyone from any nation is able to communicate and provide advice or directive to people in completing any task given.
I also envisioned in the future where people will able to wear cybernetics exoskeleton. This however, had implication in both positive and negative side. At the positive side, it will help to ease the burden for elderly as well as enable people to do obtain extraordinary strength in work. On the negative side, the power will be imbalance in all humanity, specifically to those who have it and those who do not have the exoskeleton. However, what I envisioned is neither of the application mentioned. What I envisioned is that the exoskeleton will help us toward a new frontier, space exploration.
Of course, what I imagined of a better future include space exploration. People will develop space rockets, or finally able to utilize Einstein’s relativity theory and make a worm hole in space. What NASA did with Curiosity on Mars would be norm in the future. In fact, National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) may not sending probe to other planet anymore, but instead sending probe to the Galaxy, or even “the end” of Galaxy; the Lyman-alpha Blob (LAB). That will be a true voyage to the deep unknown, because no one knows what is the LAB, and even with the technology we have now, we can only speculate.
Besides the romanticized space adventure, I also envision that people will explore toward the galaxy, finding new planet to colonize. The term for foreign customs in a community of various people is Intercultural. However, as in the future I imagined, there are new term, “Interplanetary Culture”. For sociologist, this topic would be either a haven or nightmare, but the thought of having interplanetary culture excites me. Will our present religion be the same in different planet, or deviates and astray? I would rather not answer the question but it is a never-ending subject to ponder when one imagines a better future.
Back to space voyage, with the exoskeleton suit, astronauts will be able to just bring oxygen tank and leave the entire hazard suit behind. Instead of Space Ship, a new mobile carrier would be invented. This is the only vehicular concept in my future, because teleportation device cannot be made until one reach the destination and built “the other end” of the device there. The mobile carrier would be shape like a 4x4 vehicle except with levitation and hovercraft maneuvering ability. Almost everyone with driving license can able to drive (But buying it would be another thing.)
Back on earth, things will be a lot better than present. Besides the teleportation, I imagined that every kids in the world will attend a “World School”. A World School is a school by the best teachers in the world, where with simple teleportation; a student from one end of the earth can go to the World School which is located on the other end of the earth. For those who did not have the money, they can just simply let their kids attend the class “Virtually”, literally. There will be a hologram device, for the less fortunate kids to attend the class. But instead of attending physically, only the projected hologram will attend the class.
If the World School does not share the same philosophy education as the parent’s philosophy, there is nothing to worry about. This because in my vision, there will be many type of schools; school that focus on route-memorizing, creative learning, Spartan discipline and many more. There will be many type of school that will teach kids the lesson of life.
As for population-land ratio, in my future, the concept of city on the sky will be realized. There will be floating cities, and either teleportation or mobile carrier enables people to commute between the land and the sky. In fact, Mount Everest could be another city, where a floating city anchored on top of the Himalayas. Besides the sky, there’s also city located deep underwater. By the time the future comes, The Abyss would be fully explored and people has devised a way to manipulate pressure and make it safe for living. Therefore, besides the Interplanetary, there will be Intra-earth intercultural. Another thing to ponder about the future.
These were all the better future I imagined. From outer space toward our own earth, there are many things that we still did not utilized or venture. That’s is the core of my imagination, seeking new ways to utilize and venture these unknown realms. Along the way, we may have something new and lead to a better future. People may find it childish, absurd or romanticized, but in the end these imagination can lead to idea, and Ideas can bring to light. As one physicist scholar says “Imagination is important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited; imagination encircles the world”.
