These days, more and more experts have shown they’re highly interested in the current relationship between the Both Sides of the Taiwan Strait. Not only because I’m a Taiwanese, but because this issue includes a ton of common problems that will occur in the international relations. For example, relations between Taiwan and China are fundamentally a question of power distribution under geopolitics. As many experts have mentioned "The Thucydides Trap,” after the US “National Security Strategy ” indicated that as China challenges America’s predominance, the situation will probably end up on the path that leads to war. Therefore, Taiwan’s characteristic in the Taiwan Strait has deeply anchored this war. More precisely, Taiwan’s current situation is quite similar to the status of Milos in the Peloponnesian War - Milos has a strategic position, but lacks in military power and believe that an Athens’ violation will make neighboring countries hostile to Athens. Milos’ also firmly believe that Sparta will come for help. Virtually, the most similar point is that a small number of Milos betrayed their citizens, traitors works cooperated with Athens, for the bribes, which led the wolf into the room. Throughout Taiwan’s history, most of our failure come from the betray of minor people in Taiwan.
There are differences in concepts and systems between China and Taiwan. From a biological perspective, only two ways can make up a new species in natural law, which is "mutation" and "isolation.” Although Taiwan and China have inherited in Chinese culture, both sides are geographically inseparable, but in liberal democracy and authoritarian respectively. Under the respective catalysis, Taiwan has produced an unexpected "mutation.” At this stage, Taiwan has a world leading innovation capabilities, unrestrained citizenship and inclusive multiculturalism. This is why Taiwan has not been assimilated and swallowed so far.
Looking back on contemporary history, Taiwan has been ruled by Portugal, Spain, the Qing government, Japan, and the Republic of China. These authorities are mostly foreign political powers. In the early days of their rule, the power was predominantly dominated by bloody slaughter. In fact, people in Taiwan became loyal, docile and rolling after the oppressive environment of over four hundred years, formed, which firmly establish the “subjectivization social structure” among the society. Moreover, in order to maintain the status or exchange for stable and large commercial interests, the gentry class often turns to power and betray compatriots. Moreover, these gentry families will worry about future changes might affect their vested interests. Thus, they will automatically assist China to engage in public opinion, psychological and political struggles, in order to become the future spokesperson and resource monopoly. This kind of "internal damage" is the biggest problem of Taiwan at this stage.
In conclusion, the relationship between the Both Sides of the Taiwan Strait are a complex issue, which can be explained by the perspectives of different disciplines such as political science, biology or history. They can also be drastically based on international political realism and idealism. I believe that Machiavelli and Kant have developed this. Further and even more importantly, I will also be very interested in what will happen in the future of the Taiwan strait issue. Any individual has the opportunity to change the current status or come up with ideas, which is why I am extremely interested in the relationship between the Both Sides of the Taiwan Strait.
