I am disappointed others have not joined in this conversation...I have been thinking about what you and I have shared and found this Bill Moyers interview that I feel offers additional thoughts for our consideration...

Thank you, Evan.

From my perspective, taking care of one's self is greater than just pursuing one's desires.  There is, I suggest, a degree of importance in self-discipline and control of one's urges--for lack of a better word at this moment. 

If you note, I did use the idea of "service" but I prefaced it with another idea--that of "transcendence."

Good point, Brian.This video is but one fragment of a larger picture. The idea here is that the ethic of care, or as you call it service, also includes care of the self, and that impeding your joy ultimately impedes your availability and generosity toward others. Watts doesn't suggest that we pursue our inspiration at the expense of others.

I was disappointed in this video and presentation. 

The opening question that is proposed--what would you like to do if money were no object--to me misses the underlying meaning of the question. 

The idea that one's life should be focused only on what one feels a compulsion or a need I suggest is selfish and self-centered.

Where is a discussion of ethics--of a meaning in transcendence and service?
