We are cosmopolitans with multiple identities and allegiances. On the path to a global ethic, we must beware the pitfalls of cultural relativism while easing our differences through diplomacy. Carnegie Council President Joel Rosenthal outlined this tension in an article on "Patriotism and Cosmopolitanism" (July 2009). Where must pluralism cede ground to a global ethic and vice versa?
