On October 17th our Study Group on Ethics and Sustainability promoted an event to join Carnegie Council 4th Global Ethics Day, This is an open free event in São Paulo Brazil.
On a conceptual base we wanted to start a Journey towards the upgrade of Ethics in Business since our country has been living ,in the media on corruption, since 2010. We consider that a movement has to be created to stress the importance of Ethics in Business and in the society as a whole.
This event was made in different formats during 11 hours of that day, Starting with a panel of Senior Executives of Ethical companis explaining the challenges and opportunities of Ethics , This was followed of a presentation of best practices in Sustainability which have been recorded and shares over the last 15 years, Later a presentation of the implications of non-compliance with FCPA guidelines and the impacts of a DOJ intervention on the company, its employees, board, morale etc,
We then discussed the Compliance structure and challenges in a Public company. Later we had a presentation of a recent survey on Board involvement and comprehension of its role in the Culture management of companies.
To mark the beginning of this journey towards ethics in business we planted a tree - Pau-Brasil ( symbol in Brazil) in the premises of the Business Administration Council for the State of São Paulo.
We launched also a time capsule where everyone was invited to send their messages on the present and vision for the future. The capsule will be opened on Global Ethics Day -October 18th, 2025 ( mid century XXI) and serve as a benchmark of progress. The time capsule will be both phyxical and registered on the cloud.
We finished the day with a workshop on Culture transformation since this is the requirement to implement the ethical business aproach.
In a link you will find pictures of the event.
We were glad to join Carnegie Council efforts for the second year in a row.
